Tyres for a Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane
Rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTG cranes) face a lot of challenges because of the heavy weights these machines work with. In addition, the tyres underneath must be able to cope with the extreme weights while loading and unloading containers. Magna Tyres offers multiple rubber tyres for these gantry cranes. These tyres have a unique tread compound for the most demanding applications.
What is a Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane?
A rubber tyred gantry crane, also known as transtainer, is a large machine designed to load and unload containers at outdoor yards such as shipping and container yards. However, rubber tyred gantry cranes are also deployed to handle boats and yachts and other big, heavy objects. These machines must be able to carry enormous weights, because both the weight of the load and that of the crane itself must be carried.
Tyre mounted gantry cranes are expected to be able to turn on site at a 90-degree angle and move obliquely at 20- and 45-degree. The machine itself does not move, only the tyres are rotated. Also, little distance is driven and low speed is used. This puts an enormous strain on the tyres. Therefore the tyres underneath the machines must be able to offer large carrying capacity and provide good wear resistance. Tyres fitted on RTG cranes are often parked for a long time.
RTG Crane Tyres
Magna Tyres especially developed RTG crane tyres with a special tread compound to avoid tread cracks. These tyres are suitable for harbour equipment because of that unique tread compound. The highly wear resistant tread compound offers large carrying capacity. In addition, the nylon carcass is engineered for extreme weights in the most demanding applications.
